The objective of this blog is to bring together some of the social history of Seven Hills and the surrounding area. Social history deals with the structures of societies and social change, social movements, groups and classes, occupations and conditions of work, ways of life, families, households, local communities, urbanization, mobility, ethnic groups etc. Commonly designated as 'history from below', social history challenges the more dominant narratives - constructed around important people, politics and the state - because it reaches below the surface to produce dynamic narratives with a much broader view of human behavior. Social historians seek to uncover the relationship between economic, demographic and social processes and structures as well as the impact they have on things like social movements or the distribution of resources. Social history, at its most basic, assists present generations to understand why things are the way they are.
At the moment the blog is in the early stages of development and articles will be added from time to time. Any thoughts, corrections or comments will be gratefully received.
